Happy November! Another month has gone by and it was a pretty full one for us. We welcome with joyful anticipation this new month and what God has prepared for us in it.
This last month, as I mentioned, was fairly busy. I believe I mentioned in my most recent newsletter that Mario’s sister, Bibian, was sick; this month has been full of long days spent in Tegucigalpa with her fighting for her to regain her health and strength. Just this last week we had to make the difficult decision to take her in to be hospitalized (something we hadn’t wanted to do earlier due to Covid, but her health got bad enough that we didn’t see any other option). Please continue to keep her and the rest of the family in your prayers. As God always does, He’s working in this situation and has been drawing in the family in a new way during this whole process with Bibian. As well as the Bible study we had started with the family back in June, this month we’ve been having worship and prayer nights. A lot of Mario’s family members are not believers so it’s been a great opportunity to encourage them to seek the Lord and try to reflect Jesus to each of them. We’ve also been having nights of prayer and worship outside of just the family, and they are always so rich.
As I mentioned in my previous newsletter, Mario and I are really wanting to pursue more discipleship here in La Venta, so this last month we’ve been developing that plan further and I have a couple of girls that I’ve started to do some mentoring with. We had hoped to develop it even more over this last month, but with so many days spent in Tegus we didn’t have the time we had initially anticipated. However, we’re hoping to really make it a priority this next month as Bibian improves and we are here in the village more.
We have a friend, Eduardo, who works at a pepper farm here in La Venta and they often have harvests large enough that there are a lot of peppers left over, so with Eduardo we have gotten to take the leftover peppers to the city to sell them and save that money little by little to finish the kitchen project we had started at the church back in the spring. We are really looking forward to having that done as it will be a huge blessing to the people in that church.
In the month of October we had to make the sad decision to put on hold our trip to England for YWAM. We were supposed to start the visa process this last month, but we felt like God was saying to wait as the visa process really seemed like a battle we were not going to win. After making that decision, the United Kingdom announced that they were planning to go into lockdown once again and we felt like that was just even more confirmation that God was closing that door. We are still going to be open-handed with that and see how things are next year, because if things open up and we feel that the Lord is opening that door again, we would still like to go in the future.
Thank you all for your support, please continue to be praying for us with Bibian, discipleship, the kitchen, and just for God to guide us and equip us daily. We are praying for the United States a lot with the upcoming elections, and just for the Lord’s sovereignty in all of that. May He fill you with peace no matter the outcome.
Blessings,
Katie and Mario Velasquez
